Media Alert: The City of Hamilton, Call2Recycle and Hockey Legend Guy Lafleur will Host Celebration of City

Festivities to Include Community Barbeque and Oldtimers’ Hockey Legend Exhibition Game

WHAT: Last fall, Hamiltonians joined together to divert more than 6,300 kilograms of batteries from landfills as part of the “Easy as 1-2-3” Battery Collection Drive. Now it is time to celebrate that success with a special community event on Sunday, March 6. The event will be hosted by Call2Recycle®, North America’s only free battery and cell phone collection program, hockey legend Guy Lafleur and the City of Hamilton.

The festivities will include the following:

Community Barbecue – 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Bring your family, friends and batteries to Fire Hall #5, the winning fire hall for the collection challenge that was a part of the collection drive. During this event, Hamiltonians will have the chance to celebrate the city’s battery recycling success while dining with Lafleur and other hockey legends. Attendees who bring batteries to be recycled will receive an autographed photo of Lafleur and fellow hockey legends.

To attend the event, please go to the Soccer Field Parking Lot of the Mohawk Sports Complex (situated on Kenilworth between Mohawk Road & Limeridge Road) where a free bus shuttle service will be provided to Fire Hall #5.

Oldtimers’ Hockey Legend Exhibition Game – 4 p.m. – The recycling celebration continues at Copps Coliseum as hockey legends take the ice to compete in an exciting exhibition game. To purchase tickets for the game, please visit oldtimershockey.com/tickets.
