Ontario Provincial Police Goes Green

To mark the beginning of Canadian Waste Reduction Week (October 15 to 21, 2012), the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) held its first Green Expo at OPP headquarters on October 15th.  The expo focused on the various initiatives that the OPP has in place to reduce waste within the organization. The one-day event also spotlighted the recycling options at its headquarters in Orillia, including Call2Recycle’s battery recycling program, which has been in place at the OPP since spring 2012.

The Green Expo was organized by the Green Strategy Working Group, a group of staff who promote and encourage environmentally friendly practices within the police service. A large number of staff took part and learned about the OPP’s Call2Recycle drop box and the convenience of disposing of their batteries in a sustainable way. The expo was a resounding success and the Green Team hopes to make it an annual event at OPP headquarters.
