Grand Coulee, May 29, 2023 – Call2Recycle and Earth Rangers are proud to announce the results in Saskatchewan of the 2022 edition of their Battery Blitz collection contest, partnering with elementary schools to recycle used batteries. The results were announced on May 29 at Stewart Nicks Elementary School in Grand Coulee, in the presence of Saskatchewan Minister of the Environment Dana Skoropad.
The Battery Blitz contest has partnered with elementary schools since 2015 to educate young Canadians about the importance of battery recycling for the environment. The contest, organized twice a year with elementary schools in Canada, encourages students to collect as many used batteries as possible over the contest period. Through this initiative, students can form lifelong habits and play a positive role in managing their environment.
In 2022, students participating in the Battery Blitz Contest in Saskatchewan collected over 558 kg of used batteries. The top three schools will receive monetary prizes for educational materials, experiences, or technology:
1st place: Stewart Nicks Elementary School in Grand Coulee for collecting over 248 kg of batteries.
2nd place: Lakeridge Elementary School for collecting over 192 kg of batteries.
3rd place: Vincent Massey Community School for collecting almost 89 kg of batteries.

Saskatchewan has actively engaged in battery recycling since 2020 with the launch of a program operated by Call2Recycle, dedicated to disposing of used batteries in an environmentally-friendly manner. Working with Saskatchewan’s leading recycling association SARCAN, the program collected over 102,400kg of batteries in 2022.
