Call2Recycle Canada Partners with Earth Rangers in Manitoba

For the past three years, Call2Recycle Canada has partnered with Earth Rangers to bring battery recycling education to students. This year, Call2Recycle sponsored a School Assembly Program in 50 Canadian schools, including 20 in Manitoba. Students and teachers learned about the importance of diverting batteries from the landfill then were challenged to collect and recycle used batteries over a two-week period. The school with the most collections won a pizza party.

Quebec Steadily Increases its Battery Collections

Moving Day:  On July 1 Quebec not only celebrated Canada’s 150th birthday, but also another event–Moving Day. Last year, an estimated 200,000 people participated in this annual ritual unique to the province. A Montreal Gazette article and advertisement sponsored by Call2Recycle encouraged those moving to replace and recycle the batteries in their smoke detectors, home alarms and devices. Happy 7th Anniversary Call2Recycle British Columbia!

On June 8, 2010, a small Call2Recycle team stood in Vancouver’s Stanley Park to inaugurate a milestone in battery recycling history: launch of the first government-mandated consumer battery collection and recycling program in North America on July 1. In 2009, The British Columbia (BC) Ministry of the Environment (MOE) had selected Call2Recycle Canada to be official product stewardship organization to operate the program.

Call2Recycle Canada and Earth Rangers Partner to Sponsor Third Annual Battery Blitz

For the third consecutive year, Call2Recycle Canada has partnered with Earth Rangers, a kids’ conservation organization, to raise awareness for battery recycling with Canadian kids. In April and May, a Battery Blitz School Mission team will be visiting 50 schools in British Columbia, Manitoba and New Brunswick to encourage students to collect used batteries. The school that collects the most batteries will win a pizza party for their entire school.
