Haida Gwaii Residents Answer the Call to Recycle

On September 15th, Call2Recycle® joined Encorp Pacific and other stewards for a drop-off recycling event in Haida Gwaii, British Columbia. The joint stewards drop-off event offered a rare recycling opportunity for this remote set of islands in northern British Columbia. With a population of approximately 3,800, Haida Gwaii (meaning Islands of the People) currently has no recycling depot. The battery drive event attracted many community members, who brought a range of household batteries and electronic devices.

Encorp Pacific is a not-for-profit corporation that develops, manages and improves systems to recover used packaging and products and divert them from landfills. While Encorp focuses primarily on beverage container recycling, it also has an electronics recycling program for computers, home audio, non-cellular phones and more. Paired with Call2Recycle’s battery and cellphone recycling service, Haida Gwaii residents were able to recycle a wide range of products through this partnership event.

Call2Recycle will be joining with Encorp and other stewards for future recycling events in select communities across British Columbia.
