University of British Columbia Green Research Workshop

The University of British Columbia (UBC) has an extensive battery recycling program managed by the Environmental Services Facility of Risk Management Services. Every year they host the Green Research Workshop to educate University students, professors and researchers about recycling and proper waste disposal as part of a concerted effort towards creating awareness and “greening” the campus’ labs.

This year Call2Recycle’s western Canadian account manager Kristen Romilly participated in the event to spread the word about the importance of recycling batteries. Since 2005 UBC has collected over 5,000 kgs of batteries for recycling, making it one of the top ranked Universities currently participating in the Call2Recycle program. “Our goal is to provide a safe, convenient and environmentally responsible way to handle used batteries,” said Noga Levit, environmental services manager. “We are proud of the success of UBC’s battery recycling program.”  You can visit UBC’s battery recycling program page to find out more.
