In Canada, where Extended Producer Responsibility regulations exist, all manufacturers, retailers, distributors and other suppliers of certain products must participate under an approved product stewardship plan.  Call2Recycle Canada, Inc., has approved stewardship plans in British Columbia (B.C.), Manitoba (Man.), Saskatchewan (Sask.), Quebec (Que.) and Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) for household/consumer batteries. In Ontario (Ont.), Call2Recycle is a registered  Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO), helping obligated producers fulfill their regulatory responsibilities under the Ontario Battery Regulation. Non-Regulated Provinces

With support from battery and battery-powered product manufacturers, while EHFs are not applicable, Call2Recycle does administer its collection and recycling program in all other provinces. Specifically, in New Brunswick, Call2Recycle operates its program pursuant to formal agreements held with each of the respective ministries in those provinces.

I’m obligated, what’s next? To fulfill your obligation in B.C., Sask., Man., Ont., Que. or P.E.I., you will first need to register with Call2Recycle Canada and complete a membership agreement to appoint Call2Recycle as your stewardship organization.  Please click here to review the membership agreement. For all other provinces, if you are a primary battery manufacturer or, are a rechargeable battery manufacturer or battery-powered product manufacturer, please contact [email protected].

What are my obligations once I sign the membership agreement?  For household batteries in B.C., Sask., Man., Que. and P.E.I., the approved program is that of Call2Recycle Canada, Inc.  In Ont., Call2Recycle is a registered Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) who is acting on behalf of obligated battery producers. Upon signing the membership agreement, you will be responsible for reporting your sales and remitting fees to Call2Recycle.

What if I’m obligated but decide not to use Call2Recycle? Per provincial regulations, obligated parties must either become members of an approved program, like Call2Recycle, to handle their obligations or operate their own  individual program to recover and reclaim the products referred to in the Regulation.

What is a contributor by proxy? Contributors by proxy, also called “voluntary contributors”, are entities or parties that choose to join Call2Recycle and report sales and remit EHFs to the program on behalf of the obligated party. Additional materials and information can be found in the Resources & Support Centre.
